Artist Statement
Life is my inspiration.
My work aims at beautifying and enriching lives and conveying messages of compassion, hope, joy, magnificence, uniqueness and truth.
I often borrow ideas and motives from the universe and colors and forms from nature, people and history.
The spoken and written language is the most common mode of interaction between people. I can make myself understood in several languages. My best way of communication, however, is through my art. Sharing impressions, thoughts, memories, experiences and observations of the past, present and whatever lies ahead is a goal in itself.
Artistic expression is derived from many sources and feelings. I am loved and respected and wish to share color, hope and life with all.
Colors reveal my true feelings. Bright colors represent a positive attitude, relief, completeness, warmth, comfort, compassion, joy, and contentment. Wild, abstract creations express my feelings of total freedom. Dark, somber colors indicate frustration, sorrow, depression, or longing for a loved one.
The spiral or snail motif has always fascinated me and this symbol can be found in most of my work. It is my personal icon of tranquility, longevity and elegance.
A friend once said: “Only a genius can conquer chaos”. Bjarne, my husband and my severest critic, says: “Only a fool creates chaos!” His mind is structured and organized, calm and serene, whereas, mine is wild and fiery. He keeps me on a track of reality – a perfect combination.
My work is frequently chaotic. I have to discipline and control myself when working on a piece expressing quiet, solemnity and calmness.
Artistic expression is my therapy - reviving, energizing and healing. Pain – physical or mental – takes a backseat during a creative session. Working with art is akin to giving birth. The result is always a unique creation.
